53 Days Out

Sunday – Time for our Sunday ritual at C3 Athletics: Muay Thai.  Geared up and ready to go we started off our session with some simple drills to work on defense and counters for leg kicks.  Both feeling really good we prepared for our first round of sparring, but then things took a severe turn for the worst. Not even 20 seconds into the first round E overshot on a left hook and torched his lower back. Down and out for the count only half way through the session E tried to find some relief while Ry finished up.  Ry had a great session really focusing on his parrying, countering, and of course his bread and butter: leg kicks. After the session Ry found E  still in an intense amount of pain and unable to walk. Soon enough the Sons of Strength were on a road trip to the E.R. A few shots of painkillers and hilarious laughs later E was finally comfortable enough to get home, but not without an ordered week of rest from the doc. E is sidelined for the rest of the week, Ry is riding solo.

Monday – After nailing the practice test last Friday, Ryan wanted to continue to make the 24kg bell feel light. That meant one thing: get stronger.  So using a single 32 kilo bell Ryan completed singles of the following sequence from Brett Jones:

Swing
Clean Press
Swing
Clean Squat
Swing
Get Up
Swing
Snatch
Swing

After 4 rounds on both the left and right side Ryan was feeling pretty good and decided to finishing up the session with heavy sled pushes, pull ups, and spider man push ups.

Wednesday – America’s Birthday. Celebrated it the best way possible: sweat and sunshine. Took the Thai bag outside and completed 5 3′ minute rounds of heavy bag work with 1′ minute rest. Finished up the day with 24kg swings 1′ minute ON 1′ minute OFF.

Thursday – Keeping the theme with the big bells, Ry took out the 32 again and tested his limit. Aiming to hit 5 and 5 on the minute for 15 minutes Ryan started snatching and made his way to 8 rounds with the 32. That bell is heavy! He then worked 2 rounds with the 28kg which even felt super light compared to the 32. Heavy snatches were enough for Ryan for the day. Definitely trying this again next week!

Friday – A week of lifting alone is definitely not the same and Ry was missing some of the fun and challenges training with a group brings so he challenged himself to a couple of ladders. Starting with a clean to press ladder Ry went 1 thru 10 with double 20kgs and then moved on to an alternating latter of front squats and push ups. Starting with 10 squats and 1 pushup, 9 squats 2 push ups…all the way down to 1 and 10! Good session to end the workweek and begin a fun weekend!

Saturday – Back to one of my favorite sounds: a leg snapping the pads at C3 Athletics. Tons of leg kicks today, focusing on a quick response. Nothing better than a Saturday morning sweat!
